More things to notice

http://www.filmeducation.org/secondary/BladeRunner.html

"Comparisons can be drawn between the replicants and the humans since although the former are ?machines? there is an ambivalence in terms of their representations. In particular in the characters of Rachel and Roy Batty there is an implicit suggestion that on occasion, their behaviour is more ?humane? that that displayed by the real humans within the film."

really good point.i never noticed this before.

"Look closely at the opening sequence of the film up to the point where Holden begins to interrogate Leon. What evidence is there that this is a hostile place?
How does the use of the 'introduction' suggest that there is a lack of 'humanity' within this place? How does the use of synthesised music add to the overall bleak mood?"

i never really thought about it. almost everything in blade runner is synthetic: the animals, some of the food, plants, etc... and....the music? i wonder if this was the purpose for ridley choosing vangelis for this.

is there anything else you guys discovered u want to discuss? i mean something out of the ordinary?

You never noticed that the replicants are more humane than humans? It's been written about many times. In fact, in many intelligent movies the bad guy is usually the most humane character, displaying only but human features like greed, fear, hate and desires. The good guy is always the punisher for those who want to step out of their miserable, mediocre lives.

i mean the way the reps act more humane than the humans. like bryant/gaff, they're human. all they want to do is kill the reps. batty on the other hand had many chances to kill decakard, but didnt. he, in fact saved decakrd, having compassion and sympathy for him. the humans on the other hand have one mindset--kill the human impostors.

i dont know, its hard to explain, but ive never noticed it before i read that. i havent read much analysis on blade runner, just what people post on these forums.

We can look it this way: by the observations of human behaviors, we human generalized those behaviors and get patterns, so-called human traits, and we use them to define who's more "humane", but don't forget that it's just a "Generalized", "abstracted thing", it's not the whole reality, what's human is the totality of human behaviors, not tarit, so , when we consider the behavior of replicants, we find that their behavior in terms of "human traits" is strongly match our concept of what's human, and this only proved that the designer of the replicants only used those "traits" as principle of replicant behavior and nothing else.

So, we can say , replicants "seems" more like human in aspects of those "traits" we defined, they are only "simplified and amplified " version of imprints of real human. so we can say, it's what distinghuised them form we real human.

and further, the behavioral principles given to the replicant, made them can only generate behavior from limited source, that's why they automatically "amplified" these principles, so they seems more humane.

They are just what not human but despaired to become ones , with destined futile very , very strong efforts.
