Were you ever confused???

Hello, even though right now Blade Runner would have to be my favorite movie, when I first recieved the movie and watched it for the first time (I am only a 14 year old kid and I got it for my birthday)it kind of confused me. Keep in mind this was the directors cut so the narration was gone, but after I watched the movie about three times and then watched my new full version movie, it all made sense! Was anyone else confused about this movie the first time watching it? Now it makes perfect sense to me, the directors cut was more confusing, but then the narration of the full movie straightened it out.<BR>Thanks<BR><BR>Tim

I started with the DC too, it takes at least 2 times watching for it to make sense and every time after that it gets clearer and clearer. Until your a finatic like me <IMG SRC="/forum/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif">

Yes, I too have seen it first time when I was 14 and was confused about the plot and Deckard's motives a bit, but from the contemporary point of view I consider the DC to be far better version, MAINLY because of the missing voiceovers - in the original release is everything pretty clear but it misleads the audience to the "only one right" explanation of the movie, which is, IMHO pretty shallow. <BR>DC gives you the opportunity to understand the movie in your own way, find your own personal truth, your answer on the "the Deck-a-rep question". <BR><BR>In the original release, Deckard is obviously human. Many people claim that in the DC he is a rep, but that's not so clear. DC just implies that he might be. Y<BR><BR>That's the strength of the Director's cut.

I'm Happy I wasn't the only confused one. But the funny part is, I just got the movie in June so I am only 14 as we speak lol. Who is the youngest person on this board anyways?<BR>Oh and is Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep a good book? Well, it really seems you are the youngest member here. <IMG SRC="/forum/images/smiles/icon_smile.gif"><BR><BR>DADOES is a very good novel, one of the keypieces of the post-WWII US SF literature... But many Dick's books are like that. <IMG SRC="/forum/images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif"><BR><BR>Go with it, you have nothing to loose. When it comes to the similarities with the movie, BR is just very loosely based on the book and focuses on different things than the book, which is far more philosophical and thoughtful. <BR>Also I have read it shortly after seen the movie when I was 14, liked it much, but I recommend you to read it again after few years to understand all its aspects. <BR> <BR><BR>

I saw the original release (and was older than 14 even then ... 20 years ago ...), so no I wasn't confused. But there was certainly plenty of stuff I didn't appreciate even after I'd seen it a couple of times on video thereafter. Timsta, let me commend you how diligently you?re embracing you new found fondness for BR. It?s great that you?re tackling it by also reading Future Noir, and soon, DADOES (key items if you truly want to be considered a hard core BR fan). The deeper you immerse yourself in the BR universe and the more levels you uncover, the better it gets!

I'm glad that BR still has the power to attract people so young. <BR><BR>But that's the way it has to be for anyone who cares to pay enough attention to the film... Welcome aboard!
