In the closing scenes of the movie, when Deckard checks on Rachael, there are several TV screens turned on their sides with flat glass plates stood in the front of them.

They have a 'distorted' rolling image on them (probably created by de-tuning the vertical hold) and appear to be the source of the 'humming' that fills out the background noise (as in Aliens).

I've never really thought about them until now and the answer may be an obvious one but my question is, what are they supposed to represent?

I always thought they were heaters of some kind but now I'm not so sure. Perhaps I ought to investigate further.

_________________

Richard Gunn
News and Content Manager for Bladezone
[email protected]

[ This Message was edited by: Deckard BR26354 on 2002-06-11 18:26 ]

We each live in our own realities - who's maintaining yours?

The only thing that you can be 100% sure of, is that you can't be 100% sure of anything.

The hum was discussed in the other thread already...
It appears in Alien (Scott, again) and in the Empire Strikes Back. Perhaps somewhere else, though I am not aware of it. One of the suggestion was that it is the sound of air conditioning system or something like that.

About the rolling screen: Yes, I have been thinking about it for quite a while already.
I thought it's the Esper screen with some pattern focused on...
It was added just for the l33t-looking effect imho.

_________________
"We need ya, Deck!"Blade Runner Insight Forum

[ This Message was edited by: BR796164 on 2002-06-12 00:42 ]

Those flat glass panels in front of t.v. monitors are seen a lot in the British cult classic film, Brazil. It came out in 1984 and has a strong BR feel to it.
