Watch Blade Runner....In glorious ASCII!

All thanks to the power of Linux, and Mplayer. I believe there is a Windows port of Mplayer and also VLC can be coaxed into doing something similar, but I haven't tried either of these. In my case i used PuTTY on my Windows machine to log into my Linux box and watch the Blade Runner on the terminal, with the audio still coming out of the Linux machine, oddly enough..

More information here:

http://liquidweather.net/howto/index.php?id=74

And for the geeks, here is the command i used:

$ mplayer -vo caca -really-quiet bladerunner_1982_original_VHS_rip.avi

I suspect the nostalgic quality of the VHS rip was lost in all the ASCIIfication, but what the hell, I did it anyway. And the whole point of this post was to show off some screenshots, so here goes :)

Hm...almost the same quality as my HD-DVD copy.

I thought it would be more like this:

I like it! Reminds me of those huge pictures made from thousands of tiny pictures... a fractal mindset...

Amazing, I'm lost for words..... I think one of those screen shoys would make a great poster for the lounge :D
