URGENT - SITE ISSUES AND GRIPES

Please could all member who have site access/issues please reply to this thread immediately. notable issues being raised are -

1. ActiveX problems, do you have incorrect displays on the home page?

2. Virus warnings! does your killer programs complain of bad scripts etc?

3. Bad links - have you found clicking pages leads to non existant pages?

Gary willoughby has said its gotten so bad he cannot access the site - in regards to an activeX problem. AFAIK the only activeX graphics was the old animated spinner that was on the top of the home page, and that was deleted years ago. As for the possibilities of a virus, ive used f-secure, nod32, Antivir and norton and ive never encountered a bad or suspect script (and it must be said ive accessed more pages and re-editied more pages in the last year than anyone) but i personally have not found one. if you have experienced your programs halt the execution of a script, please inform me of the page.

Not sure if it applies, but the forums here are gruelingly slow for me. Sometimes 1-2 minutes for a thread (or the boards) to load. It could be just me, but I don't experience this problem anywhere else.

Hi I. J. Thompson, and thanks for your reply.

I`ll relay what i just spoke to kipple about, and that is that this speed aspect of the forum was raised a while ago. As far as i know, the forum was once moved, or attempted to be moved from the bladezone server to the media.bladezone server (the homepage is slit across 2 servers), unfortjnately it had disasterous results.

the other idea is to `prune` the really old threads - and there really are alot of them. according to rick at oznet (the server guy to me and you) this method may/will give a slight to noticable speed increase.

fingers crossed as kipple has a route around the forums.

The site has been quite slow for me, consistently. Not too much else.

But I trust Kipple.

Same thing here. No virus warning and my protection is up to date. The speed seems slow sometimes more than others. I have noticed it seems to be more when BR is in the news, but that might be visitors logged in, but I haven't seen the corelation yet. It is why I joked about being bugged by Warner Brothers though. :)

I am all cool with pruning. I don't even pay attention to my post counts anyway.

It's a speed thing for me, sometimes it takes upto 2 mins to reload a new page after clicking.

Is it s matter of, like... 30-seconds-to-load slow, or like it-donesn't-load-in-0.2-secs slow?

I ask, because I'm in a 56K modem with a not so good ISP speed, and the forum loads in reasonable times... like 10-12 seconds, which is not bad for a phone connection, I think...

And I used to have the problem with the animated spinner, but as soon as it was removed, the main page never gave trouble again.

About ActiveX, I can't say. I abandoned Internet Explorer years ago and never looked back. Used to browse with Opera for a while, now I use Firefox only.

I just did some tests, loading sevaral articles, and had no speed problems, even when the article loads many pics, like "building The Perfect Spinner" and such. Go figure.
