The original version... if there is such.

When i saw Blade Runner i knew that it was the best movie of all times! F*ck Lotr, SW, Matrix etc. The first version i ever saw, was the one with narration, without the unicorn dream, and with the "happy end" shot in Kubrick's style.

I bought the dvd, and realised that it's not the same version. Of course, i checked the situation on the net and on wikipedia i found that there are actually 7 different versions!

Now, their categorisation gave me a headache, and as far as i know there are 3 major versions:

1. Original: with narration, happy end, and without unicorn scene.
2. Directors cut: without narration, happy end, and with unicorn scene.
3. Yet-to-be-released ultimate edition

And the one that i can't classify, that is with less violence, right?

If this is true, and correct me if i'm mistaking, where can i find the Original release on DVD: with narration, happy end, and without unicorn scene? Or even on DivX? Any help? Like, BitTorrent and stuff?

I just can't watch this new version without narration, it's less detective :) And i'm sick being jerked off: i paid one guy on the net to burn me on dvd all the Blade runner variations in Divx, for witch he claimed to have, and all i got is one and the same movie x 6 to fill up the dvd. He got me oldschool style :)

Any help?

Thanks
Luka

Okee dokee.

There are 6 versions of the movie. I am a bitch and I never count any of the TV cuts cause they are just hacked up editions of the domestic cut.

1. Workprint (no official dvd release, but there is a bootleg dvd of a theatre camera recording)
2. Domestic cut (only availible on.....uh, nothing. not yet. will be on the ultimate dvd.)
3. International cut (was the tape and laserdisc edition for YEARS. will be on the ultimate dvd. ya'll can pick up a bootleg based on the criterion dvd, but don't, just wait. and this is the version with the extra violence that the american censore p*ssies couldn't handle)
4. Director's cut (the only one ever officially on DVD, will be on ultimate)
5. San Diego sneak peek (by far, the most elusive version of blade runner EVER. not one bootleg. just a few pictures that are floating around exist of it. it had a few unique shots, hopefully, these shots will be on the new new new dvd)
6. FINAL CUT (a BR fan's wet dream, I hope. will be in THEATRES next year and on the ultiamte dvd)

Just letting you know. the movie was never meant to have a voiceover. The studios didnt feel that the audience understood the movie, THEY didnt understand the movie, and they thought it was too depressing. So they forced Scott to add the voiceover and the happy ending, and remove the unicorn dream, which was always meant to be in there. The film, in my opinion, does better without them (VO/ happy ending), and with the unicorn dream intact. But if that is what you prefer, then as I said, it, along with three other versions of the movie at least, will be on the ultiamte DVDs next year.
[In reference to A Good Year] "So anyway, fuck 'em. It was a good film."

Great, so... i'm gonna jump now thru my window on 6th floor and you just wake me up from coma when the ultimate dvd release is out :)

And, i don't know, maybe if i saw the movie for the first time without the voice overs and without that happy end, than just maybe i would be happy with this dvd release... But it turned out like this :)

Maybe its a long shot, but, is there anywhere on the net where i can find the
International cut for download? And you mentioned a bootleg of a workprint, whats the story with that? In what ways is that version different from the others?

Thanks
Luka

nobody here is able to help you with getting illegal downlowds, But if you checked out those sources for yourself you would probably find what you are looking for. I have heard the origional theatrical and the workprint are available at places like bittorent, but I don't check them out because of issues with opening up my computer to the world to access and then geting sued by the film companies for having it on my computer (if my hard drive were big enough anyway). I do see the DVDs on ebay all the time and just use the feedback function to steer you away from the frauds. You sound like you already know the paths out there, you just have to chose the next one you go down. Just think about getting ripped off on occasion while figuring out for yourself as paying tuition to the school of life. Good luck on your quest. I wish you luck, and or an experience. 8)

Thank you for an advice, but i also dont use bittorent - i just heard for it from a friend who used it to get very old movies / cartoons / series which arent avalibile on dvd or any kind of media... like complete original He-man and such. So i thought if there isn't Original Official Blade Runner release, downloading an old rip from a vhs cant be illegal :) But if you put it that way, i'll reconsider.

I also found on this site a link for downloading some bad quality but rare video of some BR version which some guy took with his cam in the theater long time ago, with alternate footage? Whats the story with that?

Thanks

You are referring to the "Workprint". More can be learned here.

Cheers!
