Maybe there's truth in these words.

There are 754 reviews about 'Blade Runner' on Amazon. Almost all of them speak very passionate (positive or negative) about this film. Of all the negative reviews towards the 'Director's Cut', I find this one to be one of the more intelligent ones.

From an Amazon reviewer named "robewil":

Is Deckard human or an android? Does being human necessarily mean you are made of flesh and blood? Why does Deckard feel remorse after shooting his non-human adversaries? Why does Deckard fall in love with Rachel? Why does Roy humanely spare Deckard at the end?

These are the kinds of questions that I asked myself after watching this film in a theatre back in 1982. These questions that the movie inspired were one of the reasons why I really loved the film.

With the Director's Cut of Blade Runner, these questions are answered for you. Therefore, so like most films, it is purely a visual entertainment vehicle that does not require you to think. As such, it still is a competent and better than average movie, but the original had a depth to it that made it a classic.

Please put out the original "classic" on DVD.

Well, what do you think? Is he right or is he wrong?

maybe. but i still think the DC is better than the OV, now that ive seen the OV on tv (not the UPN version, a good cut of it on a different channel). i think that the DC doesnt actually answer the deckard/replcant question for you, but it does make it more obvious.

i would like to see blade runner in theatres sometime in my life. *when* i get rich, im going to buy a ship (not a boat or yacht, a ship) and a movie theatre so i can watch any movie i want on the big screen. (when im rich: think positive, or you wont go far)

THX1138, you say you live in New Mexico, right? Well, I know that the DC and even the VO version of BR tend to resurface in small theaters every once in while, especially in major cities like San Fran, NY and LA. I would keep an eye out for the local universities and colleges in your area. They sometimes show these "retro" type movies and open it to the pubic in order to rise money for their film department. Also, any small theater that plays independent and international films. There's nothing like watching BR on the big screen. You tend to notice so much more detail.

i used to live in new mexico, i recently moved to colorado, right outside of denver about 1 1/2 months ago. when i lived in new mexico though, i saw the OV at a movie rental store (i told this story already). that's as close as ive ever gotten to seeing the OV, until now.

i'd like to see more in theatres, like alien/aliens, star trek, star wars (again, i saw the special edition in theatres), almost eveyr movie i own i want to see on the big screen.

but this is way off topic.

I know I've seen the original version 8 times in theatre (and not in one of those awful multiplex cinemas) in 1982. It was this version that made me and so many others fans into 'Blade Runner' disciples. I wonder if the DC could've done the same. I know I had no problem with the voice-over. To me it amplified the Raymond Chandler feel. I never had complaints about the so-called "lousy" job that Harrison Ford did with it. The sound of his voice told me that this Rick Deckard fella just doesn't care anymore. He simply has had it in this world but he's stuck here and can't affort to go "Off-World".
I honestly can say that I prefer the piano/photos scene over the unicorn scene. The photo scene added questions whether Deckard himself was a replicant. Plus, it gave us more Raymond Chandler atmosphere and a beautiful rendition of Vangelis' "Love Theme", this time with synthesizer instead of sax. OTOH, the unicorn tells us Deckard is a replicant.
Then there's the ending. Well, OK, I think the DC ending with the doors of the elivator is better than Deckard and Rachel wandering off in a spinner in a world that suddenly looks very beautiful and clean. This couldn't be Earth, right? But the story didn't tell you if they went "Off-World" either. In short, the nature scene, no matter how gorgeous visually, is vulnerable for critique, and I cannot defend it to those who attack it.

Damn, I suddenly realize again why we so desperately need that 3-disc set of Blade Runner SE.

To answer the question of if the D.C. could cause someone to join the cult the answer is (at least in my case) YES!! In fact if you read my original post titled "Voice Over" I explain how and why. Call me crazy (many have for more than one reason lol) but I agree w/B.R.'s director and lets face it "author" Ridley Scott. He was right not to want the v.o. included it inproved the film a great deal. And if the D.C. closes the door on the debate then why is it we are still argueing about it. My family will sit down w/me every once in a while and we debate it as well. How is this possible if its answered for you? The fact is that it isnt. Its simply that the D.C. is more ambiguous. Not only on Deckerd's true nature but on Rachel and how much time she has left and how the two end up.
