Bloody Mutiny...

i just watched BR for the first time in over six months, wow good movie but anyway i was wondering what happens when the replicants go berserk and kill all these people

what stops that kind of info from destroying the replicant industry. you guys following?

like i imagine that when you sign the papers to get a replicant upon emmigrating there must be some kinda "malfunction resulting in death" clause that prevents the families from pursuing litigation against the company who manufactured the faulty replicant has anybody else thought about this or am i really looking into this too far

Maybe the benefits of Replicants' work are bigger that "ocassional" accidents?

I think that the customers who buy reps must be well aware that they have limited lifespan... or perhaps they can return dead bodies of reps to Tyrell to get a newer model for a lower price.

I could simply be that the media is firmly in the grip of Tyrell Corp. and Shimato-Dominguez Off-world Corp.


If you get the chance, read "Friday" by Robert Heinlien. It shows very well how bad things could get if corportions took over running the world.

Another thing is that America really isn't the same in the Blade Runner world as it is in our world. Society has built itself up in levels of control, and the people onthe top of the heap control the flow of knowledge. When surviving day-by-day became the primary concern, the constitution and freedom of the press really became less important.

In the Blade Runner universe, the Government, heavily influenced by the mega-corporations, want to encourage the population to leave the Earth and colonize other planets - what better way to encourage people to 'off-world' than by offering them their own personal slaves to relieve them of the tedious chores of day to day living. This deal might not seem so sweet if the general population found out that one day their super-human servants might turn around and kill them - better keep that small fact out of the public domain. This can be achieved if the company that manufactures the reps is part of the same group that run the media. I fear that this sort of arrangment already exists today. The media corporations of today wield far too much power and influence, they can sell anything to the masses. Even an illegal war...

"No sir not embaristing, Becuase no one is ever going to know thier down here"
or something to that effect.
So dose the public at large know that they are illegal on earth? If they did then they would have to know they are dangerous to some extent correct?

Oh I'm pretty sure the public knows that replicants are illegal on Earth, but since there are multple Off-World colonies (and the reps are not illegal there) the rep business would be booming.

just think of all the guys who hunt for porn on the internet... these are the same guys that would kill to have a rep love slave (basic pleasure model). Who cares if they only live 3-4 years. The chance that they go beserk and kill their owners would be slim-- because it's likely they would never get exposure to outside influences.

Not so with the reps sold to the military. These reps have exporsure to many different belief systems--including freedom. The likelyhood of them revolting is much higher because they have the knowledge of what tue freedom is and they grow to love it. The personal love slave likely does not have that choice, unless the owner slips up and exposes her to outside influences (IE: the horny mailman, the independent single woman down the hall, etc.)

It all boils down to the control of information.
