We have seen the end of Blade Runner, Racheal and Deckard leaving. According to many editions, theres a small brief info about Deckard, whether he's a replicant (Nexus 7 probably) We dont know, Tyrell was too secretive. How about Racheal, according to Jeter's books, Racheal has 4 years. Hmmm...in the OV, Racheal was said she was different, lives longer perhaps. What do you think?

What the viewer believes about Rachael's longevity would depend primarily on which version (happy ending vs. ambiguous ending) of the film was seen.

Although I'm sure that Tyrell probably had other replicants working for him in some capacity, the fact that Rachael served as his assistant (whatever that job description involves) indicates, in my opinion at least, that she was indeed special in some way. Whether or not this means that she had no pre-determined termination date is best left up to the individual preferences of the viewer.

The topic of Rachael's lifespan is similar to the one concerning whether or not Deckard is human. Despite what the director, the producer, the screenwriter, or anyone else says, I feel that this film has taken on a life of its own and that the these issues are up to the individual viewer.

Personally, I think Deckard is human and that Rachael indeed does not have a pre-determined four-year lifespan.

Also, in reference to K.W. Jeter, I don't accept anything contained in his "sequels" as relevant to the original movie. These sequels are somewhat entertaining, but the world of "Blade Runner" (the movie) begins with the scrolling prologue and ends with Deckard and Rachael riding off towards an uncertain future, in my opinion. Jeter's sequels are, in my opinion, completely irrelevant.

[ This Message was edited by: IntelliDroid on 2003-02-14 16:45 ]

I agree with most of that. I can only emphasize the aspect of choice. Where the DC leaves it open, so one can choose to wonder if Rachael has no limited lifespan (as she was an experiment, it is quite possible), in the OV, the voiceover tells us what to think.

Now why is it again that so many object to the VO?

My feelings on the oft-hated VO are that it disrupts the film. Here you are watching a movie that's so layed, textured and overflowing with atmosphere, and you rbrain all of a sudden trips ove the speedbump that is Harrison Ford's apathetic voice.

But I like the VO because my first viewing of BR was the DC and I didn't get to experience the grating VO. On the other hand, I was a year and a half old when BR was first released, and if I hear the VO, I can see the same movie that flopped in 1982. I can see the same movie everyone else saw in 1982. And for a fan that wasn't able to experience the culture when Blade Runner was released, that makes me appreciative.

ipersonally feel that if you view Blade Runner as a detective story then the VO's work im a fan of that style so i rather enjoy hearing the hardboiled detecvie talk about the case but if you view Blade Runner as the metaphisical picture it is then yes the VO only inhibits the flow

Well, if you watch the movie more carefully, you will be able to spot clues, clues that Scott may put to give clues about Racheal. And about that experiment about Racheal, Tyrell created her with something special than the other Replicants, IMPLANTS, but Roy Batty and his gang had Implants too. Racheal is probably different, ok, this is gettin too mixed up. Racheal is probably a prototype for the Nexus 6. Maybe.

Hey here's a question...does anyone think Rachael knew about Tyrell's demise when she ran off with Deckard? If she did, then it explains why she left because the person she's serving is dead, and if she didn't know, it could be some kind of act of rebellion.

I'm sure that Rachael knew about Tyrell's death, quite possibly from Deckard himself. News of the death of such a notable person, especially when executed with such violence, would have spread throughout the city like wildfire. However, I think that Rachael had made the decision to flee before Batty murdered Dr. Tyrell.

Jeez! I wish a Black-Op could just infiltrate into Tyrell Corp's archives and finally give an answer to our fustrating questions. Don't you hate it when little people never receives an answer from Big Guys working for the Government or Tyrells?

if you remeber when deckard is driving to the bradbury you can hear on the police radio that ther was a Tacticle Allert in sectors 1 trough 6 or somethin like that now i dont live in LA but if they possibly cloesed off all those sectors one could postulate that somethin very heavy was goin on. and one more thing i mentioned this on another post right before deckard goes to the bradbury hes almost arrested by a cop in a spinner now is it jus me or does that sound like Morgan Paull the charecter who played Holden for those of you who dont know it's really beginin' to bug me anyone know the answer

Personally, the spinne cop sounds more like the cop that guides Gaff's spinner to a landing atop police HQ. I can't really get Morgan Paull's voice out of the spinner cop. But you may be right. Guess we'll just have to wait on Ridley's commentary.

Something could be happening really heavily there but Ridley probably intended to make the audience feel that the Death of Tyrell is a tremendous shockwave. But the problem is that those sectors are probably not The Tyrell Corporation building HQ Location.
