Thanks I figured as much thought'd I'd ask the VHS quality certainly isn't/wouldn'e be as good.

I am sure that's all the guy I got it from paid for it, but I got plenty of $$ and not a whole lotta time to cruise the second hand shops for used items.
Time is $$ too you know.

I protect my original VHS BR OV copy so much that I've seen it only 5 times, last time about 8 years ago. It's badlly dubbed to Czech (they transformed the name of the movie into "SHARP SQUAD"... oh my god...) , but it's the only OV I have and I can't watch it anyway as I have no video player.
I think I have to look for someone who could transfer the movie into digital format for me.

Just curious to what people thought of it as this version had more graphic violence in it..and the ending was cool but cheesy.
The voice over filled in a lot of blanks...like the Deckard said in the beginning his ex wife said he was a cold fish like sushi..and the ending where he and rachel rode off inot the sunset so to speak.

I don't know if I like it better because it was different or what but getting ready to watch it again.

Which do you guys prefer?

Ah, the good ol' International Cut. I saw this when it first came out on video (after having see the Original U.S. version in theaters a few times) and I liked the extra violence, as it only intensified what was already an intense film. I didn't think the violence that was cut was gratuitous, just too intense for U.S. movie audiences in the early 80s. Today, those same scenes are mild in comparison to a lot of so-called action or horror gore-fests.

Like a lot of others on this board, I have mixed feelings about all versions of the film I have seen. The narration is a heavy handed in places (telling, rather than showing), but in other places it is brilliant (the "cold fish" line being a prime example of the latter). The "happy ending" doesn't work for me at all. Though I don't agree with many that the entire Earth would be an ecological disaster; I do think the "happy ending" looks like a tacked on "Hollywood" ending and the "no termination date" narration removes the impact of Deckard coming to love an android with a short lifespan.

When the DC came out, I missed the good bits of narration and I wasn't thrilled with the unicorn dream (I prefer not to be knocked over the head with the "Deck-A-Rep" concept).

Ideally, I'd love to see the SE include newly recorded narration, replacing the awkward, storytelling bits with more noir-styled voice-overs, and excising the unicorn dream sequence. I doubt that will happen, but a guy can dream.

i have a copy of blade runner that i taped fronm TV some 20 years ago. its different in that some of the scenes seem to contain more picture. according to sources, it was made from an original print. reel-2-reel copes lose a few inches either side. notably in the opening sequence, there is a craft that enters from the far right of the screen, in this version you can see far more of the craft as it enters.

the copies i have -

1. rare TV version
2. original rental vhs casette
3. dvd DC
4. workprint version

well, the theatrical version is great minus the ending. it would be perfect if it were letterboxed and didnt have the stanley kubrick recycleables tacked on.

by tha way...is your VHS tape a Nelson Entertainment" vid or Embassy. If its an original Embassy, congrats those are hard to find!!!
That hurt! That was irrational of you. Not to mention ... unsportsmanlike.Heh heh...ha ha ha! Where are you going?"

It might help, but then again, it might not.

It's and Embassy vid like I said it's kinda poor quality :? :x  but still viewable.
I guess I'll watch it once a year or so. Damn. :(

ARE there any VHS reconditioning services :?: , I may look at getting it copied to a DVD and enhanced some how to preserve it.
I have heard people going to great lengths to get their 8 mm home movies copied to VHS and then disc.

I was intrigued a few months ago they showed BLADE RUNNER on AMC.

It was the original theatrical version with voice over BUT it had commercials and the violence edited out.

I've only seen the director's cut of the film. I'm pretty suprised by all the backlash it's getting here.

So, the original VHS version is not available on DVD? When Bladerunner was available, then on VHS I immediately made a purchase, and right now its spoiled. Many or most of the Bladeruner fans have become fans because of the original, it has its own hypnotic drawing power. I'd like to know if there is a DVD version of the original, as I would like to have it more than the DC.

Does anyone have access to converting the original to an avi file and posting it somewhere for download? I caught the ending of Blade Runner on AMC the other day and was so disappointed when I noticed it was the original and I had missed all except the last few minutes. I missed my favorite part about the original- the narration that follows Rutger Hauer's death.

Thanks.

The International Cut is the version I first saw on videodisc in 1983, fell in love with, and watched at least once a month on VHS for at least the next nine years. Honestly, I only switched to watching the DC (when it came out) because it was letterboxed. I'm so happy that all three versions will be in the Final Cut box!

In my opinion, 1982 was the best year for movies ever! Hopefully we can also hope for 25th Anniversary editions of:

    Poltergeist
    The Thing
    The Dark Crystal
    The Wrath of Khan
    Tron
    E.T.
    The Road Warrior
    Creepshow
    Megaforce

(hee hee... I was just kidding about that last one! :P )

YES! Those movies would be so awesome. I'm sure for the Dark Crystal they'll do a special release for it when the sequel comes out. Should be in a year or two, maybe a little more. As for the wrath of khan, the star trek movies are pretty much all out on DVD already, and have already been released in multiple versions. I doubt they'll release it again (this would be the 4th or 5th time they would release star trek 2 on DVD)

Yeah, I dig. I mostly just included it 'cause it's another great film from 1982. On the other hand, I think special editions of Poltergeist and Creepshow in particular are waaaaaay overdue! :)

Anyway yes, I miss the ol' Blade Runner VHS. Especially the little Avco Embassy jingle at the beginning... for me, it was just as much a part of the film as the Ladd Co. theme!
