There was a Aliens covention in the UK a couple of years ago which i was very happy to be involved with and that was very well supported both by stars from the film and Harry Harris (Aliens Collection) i have been very interested in the idea of a Blade Runner Convention in the UK for some time, does anybody think that there would be enough serious interest or even say a combined meeting with another cult movie eg Aliens for example

I live in Billericay Essex UK

Dunno - I live in the UK (Derbyshire) - I've never been to a convention. Doesn't involve dressing-up, does it?

I'm still clinging to my own idea of going to L.A. in November 2019 and finding a sushi bar...

...and yes, I AM BEING SERIOUS!

Of course, if you wont come to a BR convention in spinner, you're a looser! :D

Only a handful of people will show up. BR doesn't attract nerds like Star Trek or Star Wars.

What about us, the bicicle riders?

i seriously doubt that a lot of people will show up, or anyone will even hear about it. i wouldnt be surprised if that old TV show "quantum leap" has more fans than BR (ok, bad example).

If they'll be wearing chinese hats, they'll be forgiven. :)

how about a cyber punk or dark metropolis convention...you could get william gibson and (cough)jeter...actors from the matrix movies, dark city, aliens etc...artists like brom, WDBarlow, and so on....

it would be themed but also not just a generic sci-fi convention...

2004/2005 cyberpunk convention...sounds much better.

though jetter? i wouldnt go near him, as (his books sucked) he ruined the blade runner name. maybe he's the reason jerry p. wont release a SE DVD, because he's affraid it will turn out like BR2, BR3, and BR4 did.

I mention it whenever I can - still a bit too early to start planning though, don't you think?

i duno making a plan now isnt so bad as long as the place is still standing in 15 years i dont think it can hurt

its always nice to have an idea about what you want to do

lets start nominating places then maybe have a vote

Only through my corpse!

(What has Matrix trilogy to do with cyberpunk anyway?) :?

yes, the matrix isnt cyberpunk, but it is PK DICK inspired (from an interview with the "brothers").
and metropolis should be excluded as well (anime version). this is not cyberpunk either.

if you call it a "cyberpunk convention", most people, who are into c.p. anyways, will know what it is and what it includes/excludes. it's kinda a no-brainer for us.

if there ever is a CP convention outside the US, i wont be able to make it.

You are all probably right, there would not be a serious take up for Blade Runner Fans alone. Joe Turkell was at the London convention in Wembly and there was no more than a couple of people in the line at any time. I had a great time talking to him though and he quoted most of his main dialogue from the film. I got the impression though that he enjoyed making the Shining more. Anyway i will keep the idea of a convention uppermost in my mind.
