Hello fellow Blade-Runnians! I may be reading too much into the best movie of all time but I did study it at school and I have learnt quite alot about the themes and motifs of the film. But then again, thats what this forum is for I guess! Anyway. There are constant references to eyes in the film. We see a reflection of LA 2019 in a big blue eye at the beginning, Leon tries to kill Deckard by gouging out his eyes, Tyrell is killed by getting his eyes gouged by Roy, Roy says that "...the eyes are the windows to the soul", and so on. What my question is however, the big blue eye we see at the start of the film, in which we see the cityscape reflection and the large bursts of flame, belongs to someone. What are your thoughts on whose eye it might be? Im guessing its Rachael's, looking over LA from high up in Tyrell's chamber... but I can't recall whether she has blue eyes or not. Then I thought that it may be Tyrell's, but the lack of glasses doesn't support that theory. And finally, I thought it may have been Holden's, the BR shot and critically injured by Leon in the Tyrell Corp building! Personally, I don't think it belongs to anyone in particular, but is simply a metaphor, a device for the whole theme of the story. Eyes, as used in BR carry several messages, among these being the proverbial "windows to the soul". I think that the first eye merelly sets the stage for what is to come, for if you notice, right after the eye shows, we immediately zoom in on Holden and Leon. Just my .02 cents (.01 cents, adjusted for inflation <IMG SRC="/forum/images/smiles/icon_wink.gif"> )

Personally, I think it's Holden's as he is gazing out of the Tyrell office window over the cityscape while he waits for Leon to turn up... ...can't remember the exact details, but I do recall reading that the eye actually belongs to one of the film crew...

Another movie that has a lot of eye symbolism is the 1984 cult film, VIDEODROME. I've posted a topic about this movie in the General Discussion forum if you care to coment on this irrie film.

Nexus6, if you like BR, then I think you might like Videodrome. The concept of the movie is very original and off the wall! Like BR, it didn't do to well in the box office, but it does have a small following to this day. Gene and I are talking about it in the General Discussion forum. "Long live the Flesh!"

Video Drome was a radical Sci Fi Movie <IMG SRC="/forum/images/smiles/icon_cool.gif"> I think it was creepy how the Replicant's eyes glow . I'm brand new to this chat room thing, so pardon me if I'm redundant. I'm wondering what you all think about the replicants' glowing eyes? I look at it as symbolism--the replicants are sort of a reflection of humans. It is as though they reflect everything they see in the human world back at humanity... This also makes them a little enigmatic. Seems like humans only see what they want to in this movie--arguably in life:)
