Hey Everybody!

I've heard that the new Spielberg, Minority Report, is very much like Blade Runner. Having both being written by Philip K. Dick. The story is about Tom Cruise in the role as a policeman in 2054 in Washington, working for a company, "Precrime", who nails the criminals of crimes before they are commited. Tom is then accused of a crime he didn't commit on a man he has never met, so he runs.

The premiere was last night in America, and is released here in England on July 4th.

Didn't VanDam make a move in the mid 90's called Time Cop with the same premis?

Anyways, I plan on seeing it. It looks pretty good, but then again, so did A.I. before it came out (Speilberg's last movie).

Van Damme did indeed make Timecop, but the premise is different. He goes back in time, specifically chasing others who did the same and are trying to profit from future knowledge.

In Minority Report, the premise is arresting people based on crimes they are going to commit, before they've committed them. As in other stories, the hunter becomes the hunted.

Reviews I've seen so far (by the people who I take any notice of) think MR is considerably better than AI and certainly a little darker. Not a classic, but certainly a far better effort than most that comes our way these days. The trailer I've seen looks good and for once the cityscape may be moving slightly further than Blade Runner, which would be good. Even the acting passes.

I watched the Ebert Roeper Review and Eberts quotes were..."Spielberg's best movie ever"..."A Masterpiece" and that "movies like this made it all worth it having to sit through so many bad movies for a living". Roeper agreed with everything he said...That was an unusual review from them

If I remember correctly they both disliked or one only marginally liked AI. Though I believe at least one of them said they changed their mind after seeing it again.

The only mention to BR that I remember hearing was in reference to the Auther(PKD)

"Spielberg's best movie ever"..."
"A Masterpiece"

Waaaaait... in which review of a Spielberg movie have I already read such things ???

And Ebert really seems to get easily overexcited. Last time when he rewieved SWE2, for example.
