Is it anyone's contension that the replicants were like anyone else, just regular joes searching for a better life? Like the Roman slaves- for that is what the replicants are-, wanting manumission? Look at that exotic dancin replicant( i dont know her name) she was just making a life for herself. Or do you feel they deserved their fate for their slaughter of the inocent?

In all honesty, I doubt that any of the replicants did anything that a human wouldn't do in similar circumstances.

However, one should keep in mind that their presence on Earth was considered illegal and that the penalty for breaking this law was immediate retirement.

Strange what risks that foreknowledge of one's death will cause a person to take.

[ This Message was edited by: IntelliDroid on 2002-05-25 00:07 ]

And why was their presence on Earth illegal? Because there were already problems with replicants fighting and rebelling. It had already been recognised by somebody that some replicants had made a bid for freedom and that others might do the same. Sure, this might be dismissed as "faulty machines", but lets face it, Tyrell was experimenting with the Rachael precisely in order to try and find a way around these problems.

In the end, I find it quite likely that all N6 Reps have the potential to go Batty given enough time, precisely because they can develop the same desire for life and freedom as humans.
In the book, the fear was that the andies (replicants) would kill real people and assume their identities in order to live out a natural life undetected on Earth. This lead to a total ban of andies on Earth.

To enforce this ban bounty hunters were employed to detect and flush out andies that had managed to slip through the net. Most of the andies in the book had already assumed a real person's identity.

The knowledge that this was happening was kept away from the general public to reduce panic and paranoia. Imagine the witch hunts fueled by suspicion that your neighbour was a murdering android.

So in my mind, andies/replicants are not innocent - they know that murdering humans is wrong, they just don't feel any remorse for doing so.
