Anyone seen Blade Runner on Beta?

Well, I just bought Blade Runner on Beta, now I just got to find a Betamax player My friend's father owns a video store that looks like it's been frozen in '88...they still rent Beta. Anyway, they might have beta player I can have.

So my question is, has anyone seen Blade Runner on Beta? How is the quality? I suppose maybe my question should be "how is the quality of Beta"

I suppose it's like PS2 and X-box - technically X-box is a better machine, but the PS2 outsells it by about 10 to 1. My choice to buy a PS2 over X-box was partially fueled by my hate of Microsoft and the fact that I already had many PS1 games. I suppose emotion does factor in our buying habits...

Anyway, I'm not exactly sure which version it is. It looks the same as the VHS version that has a white to black vertical fade on the cover. It was made in '83 and is distributed by "Embassy Home Entertainment". The back says "WARNING: This cassette contains never before released sequences of graphic violence which were edited out of the theatrical release in an attempt to soften the very adult tone of the picture".

What cut might this be?

Sounds like you may have the European Theatrical Release. It contained some extra footage that was removed from the US release in order to get an "R" rating.

imho x-box is regaining alot of the market, plays avi, mpg, ps2-games, old nitendo games, inbuild harddrive, games are easy to download from the internet (that goes for ps2 also ofcourse).

Fair enough - I'm waiting for Sony's new CPU to go inside a PC - then I'll buy both a new PC (running Linux) and the new PS3. Stuff Microsoft.

speaking of the xboxes, if you really want a mac G5, wait for xbox 2, the new hardware will be based on the mac g5 using the g5 processors. jsut mod them and you've got a mac

wow pretty easy to get goin off topic good luck finding a beta max player i suggest pawn shops and thrift/second hand stores for the best chance of getting one, however personally i wouldnt chance actually watching it on a betamax player you find. one of the reasons beta died was its tendancy to eat tapes that is however with the early players but of course its totally up to you

most of the people i know who still use beta are in the TV business and still ften use it professionally. It is clearer than vhs...but not better than dvd..good luck

I do work in the av industry and the professional system for tape is Betacam which is a trade mark of Sony. This has been around for some time but what is used now is DigiBeta. This is broadcast standard for most high end AV productions and is thought to be more reliable than DVD at the moment.
The Blade Runner Beta i have is dated 1982 runs 119mins and is not rated.

I still have (works superb) an original Sony Betamax VCR. I have the BR version in Beta format. X-tra violent scenes; Pris?s death, Tyrell?s eyes ?thummed out? by Roy, voice over, no unicorn dream, happy ending? Beta?s demise was due to Sony?s intent to monopolize on its own patent. While the VHS format was granted to many manufacturers Sony wanted compensation. Cost to manufacture was cheaper for VHS. The audio quality alone was far superior to VHS. The Sony is over 20 years young and has survived my 20 year VHS.
