What would you like different?

Just saw the movie for the first time. It has been long since I liked a movie this much. At the end, I was staring at the screen for long time, listening to the beautiful vangelis end title and thinking about the movie. Very deep and meaningful wasn't it. Blade Runner was the hero but didn't you too wanted the replicants to succeed? even before Baty saved his life? Was you disappointed when you saw Pris, who was supposed to be more, or as intelligent as her creators go for an acrobatic maneuver, leaving BR to grab his gun and simply shoot her?
Why aren't they making a BR2? Do you know anything about it?

Welcome to the forum - I wish I were in your position, seeing the movie for the first time.

I've always thought Rutger stole the show from Harrison, though I still think that this is Harrison's best performance. But then I'm biased.

There are threads in these forums concerning sequels - I think the general opinion is that the people on these boards would prefer another movie set in the same 'universe' but not a direct sequel. If you haven't played the computer game yet, I suggest you seek it out - this is a perfect illustration of how you can fit into an existing story without interfering with original.

Of course a movie sequel is unlikely due to the legal turmoil that the current movie is still in - a special edtion DVD was due several years ago and now seems unlikely to be produced because of ownership issues.

nothing, it was a cinematic masterpiece. Ridley Scott knew exactly what he was doing.

A BR 2 would be what 2010 was to 2001. In a way, I'm glad BR 2 flopped at the box office.

Hello all, happy to talk to you.
Deckard, I absolutely agree with you that Rutger stole the show from Ford. He is the real star of the movie and thats why I would like to say to wilkins , who thinks nothing would be better diffirent, that this movie shouldnt have named after Harrisons charachter, BladeRunner, but after the replicants. Who was Bladerunner anyways? a retired police who was wandering in the streets untill they forced him into a job he didnt want, not interested and reluctant to do. On the other hand the replicants had great motive, they had "Questions" to ask. They are the ones who have rebelled against their selfish creator who doesnt care or doesnt know about thier feelings and lives. They are the ones that wanted to know How and why and when. This movie should have been called BladeRunners for the 4 replicants running for their life and answers.,IMHO. So, that's one of the things I would like to see different.

In my opinion, it is good that the main charater is a Blade Runner, a human (if you think he's a human). In this way we have an interesting contrast between humanity and arteficial beings, and it shows what problems may this contrast create. The audience can get into the character of
"man of the law" who is slowly changing his initial negative attitude towards arteficial beings. Through the character of Deckard the audience can get into the inner world of replicants, which is normally hidden to most of the human population in the world of LA 2019. You can perceive Deckard as very human, erratic being, what is quite familiar to us all, and through his view you preceive and better understand the world he lives in. Through his character we can realize whether it is possible to feel for a "robot" who is in fact far more than just a robot, even whether it is possible for human to fall in love with a "robot".
Of course in BR, the border between what is human and what is not is very blurry, and that's perfect.

Simply said, for me, the contrast between humans and replicants is one of the vital themes of Blade Runner and in this context I think it's vital that the movie has an ex-cop human as the main character.

I agree that Hauer is great in the move, it's probably his best role ever, but Ford isn't bad either. His civil, modest, tired, cynical, confused expression makes him very appropriate for his role of a private eye.

But that takes away from the great dichotomy of this film. The replicants are more "human" that the supposed true humans we meet. Simply shoving that down our throats with a different title or the like does nothing to make the movie better.
