What a great job Gary did! I really appreciate the fact that he took the time to document the restoration. Thanks, Gary. I remember when this vehicle was sold through online auction (a year ago?). I wondered who bought it and what their plans might be. Worst case would be something like the private collector in Japan who owns one of the motorized spinners and never publically displays it. I think it's great that someone with the foresight and appreciation to restore and publically display the spinner was the person who actually acquired it (not to mention the fact that they had the means to have it restored by the original builder). I find it comforting to know that it is now possible to view this great piece in a setting befitting it's status as an icon of science fiction and cinema in gereral.

very cool article but i am wondering why they changed the color of the car to a more metalic instead of the royal blue the origional was. I understand making it look less dated...but it is a museum piece not a car brought into "pimp my ride".

i like the new shade. looks better. be grateful they didnt actually pimp it out, lol. put some chrome spinners on it, a disco ball on the dashboard, messed up tired (one set big, one set small). and a huge old muffler.

I mean, they didn't have to include the spinner in the museum at all. They didn't have to use Gene Winfield to restore it. I agree that the shade looks good. Damn good, and quite frankly looks more like the film than it would in a flat basic color. It doesn't look royal blue in the film.

Like I said...very cool...but wondering why??? I was actually looking for a knowlagable intellegent response to that question...not crticism. Please take your attitude somewhere else. It's not needed here.

The ironic thing here is I like the new shade better too...but I was just making an observation ...not a criticism.

So to rephrase my question...does anybody involved with the article know why Winfield and crew chose the new color? I can guess too, but I trust their rationalization better than my own.

I have a question: Is it me or the blue tone of the new paint is darker than the original spinner color?. Anyway, that would be a minor detail in a superb restoration work... Many thanks to all the people that made this possible and got the 'Flying Spinner' out of the tomb-world.

EDIT: It wasn't me. I see that others noticed it too.

Here's my question - how do any of you know what the real colour of the spinner is?
