I've heard rumors about this. Are they true? How's the quality? I mean, if Perenchio isn't going to break...

I once bought the VHS tape but it's in 4:3. I read that the Criterion Laserdisc of BR was released in letterbox/widescreen. Maybe a DVD of that release might be pretty good. No one?

I have a copy of the Criterion Theactrical Release Laser Disc. It is wide screen (as you mentioned). A friend of mine recorded a copy of the Laser Disc onto DVD, but the picture quality was a far cry from a comercial DVD. I purchased a home-brewed DVD of the Criterion LD from eBay hoping to get a better transfer but the quality wasn't any better. The LD seemed to be slightly better quality than VHS but not nearly as good as a DVD.

Either way, I think it's a really big shame that the DC DVD picture is only in letterbox format. One more reason to have SE DVD... oh yes, but when and IF ever!

No chance for me to obtain the old laserdisc. I have old VHS (not much played though) with the original version, with quite bad dubbing. Not ideal, but I cannot ask for more in my situation. Maybe I should find a person who could transfer it onto DVD for me.

I ordered the DVDr. Sorry, but I couldn't help myself. I really don't want to watch that VHS 4:3 cut anymore. I can only hope the DVDr has better picture quality. In any case, it's letterboxed, so I won't miss any details.
And if next year the SE 3-DVD set comes out, then regretting this bootleg will be my pleasure.
Btw, speaking of letterbox, I like having the black bars. I think that with them movies look better, in a "arty" sort of way. I hope the SE versions will have them too.

My DC DVD of Blade Runner is a double sided disc with the letterbox on one side and the pan and scan on the other. I usually watch the widescreen(LB) version myself but if I play it on a small screen like my computer I will play the full screen(PAS). Take a closer look you should have it as well.

But of course if you are from Bratislava, Slovakia... you might have an international version that doesn't have the "fullscreen" format on the other side. As far as I know all the Amercan versions do have both versions so if you can play them you might want to pick one up..they seem to go pretty cheap on ebay...or at least they used to.

I have the DC on DVD too, of course. But does it look good? No, in fact, it's one of the worst transfers in the history of DVD. I never watched more than 5 minutes from it. It breaks my heart to see one of the best films ever being treated so bad. I know exactly how Blade Runner looks like but this DVD, my friends, isn't even close.

Hey, I've received my DVDr of Blade Runner (Theatrical Cut) from SuperHappyFun. It came in a CD jewel case. No cover, no inlay, no captain, no Dallas! Just a silver DVDr with Blade Runner printed in black (stamped?). Guess I need to provide my own artwork. Or I'll just use my DVD case of the DC.

I only checked the first 5 minutes but the picture quality seems to be okay. It could've been much worse. It's certainly better than that awful DVD of the Director's Cut. I haven't compared it with the VHS tapes that I've got. I have a feeling that the lighting in some of the city vistas scenes is looking kinda overexposed, but it could just be me.

what we could do is get a bunch of people from bladezone and create out own dvd stuff. we can get someone to mass-order some dvds, we can create some artwork, buy some dvd cases, and resell them (on bladezone) for only $1 more than superhappy fun sells them for. i mean, a cd-case and the printed artwork for the case should only run about $1 each, so really your paying only a dollar more than superhappyfun. i'd buy one. if not this suggested way, then i'll get mine from superhappyfun. i just thought it'd be a cool idea.

Well, superhappyfun or whoever, may find themselves staring at a set of iron bars if they are selling DVDr's on Ebay. There are dedicated law enforement teams chasing these guys around and selling any kind of copy for any money is a risky thing to do indeed.

I'm in two minds when it comes to copyrighted material that isn't commercially available - I want to see everthing there is to see, except not everything is officially available. So what to do? Buy a bootleg until the real thing is released? Well, everyone can make their own mind up about that.

But selling copies on Bladezone? They'd shut us down in minutes.
