If my memory serves me correctly, I think he was.
Oh, and welcome to the forum

The only thing that you can be 100% sure of, is that you can't be 100% sure of anything.

Eli Booker wrote:I could see Gary Oldman as Rick Deckard. The guy is amazing. I guess he'd play the role somewhere in between Hoffman and Ford with his own special twist.
Bill Paxton, not so much. Maybe as Leon.
Michael Beihn? That's an interesting idea. Michael Beihn is getting kind of crazy eyed as he gets older. Could work.
Paget Brewster for Rachel.
Jake Busey for Batty (I'm KIDDING)
Gary Oldman is one of my favorite actors (along with C.Walken), just wanted to say that !
Blade Runner without Harrison wouldnt be the same movie, its amusing discussing other actors but.. just for fun, i doubt anybody would like to change anything about it
"..like tears in rain.."
Harrison Ford literally made the character. Ford himself is a down to earth guy and has that look of a gumshoe kind of cop. If this had been anyone else...I doubt the movie would be as successful or widely praised. Everyone in the movie was superbly cast for each role and to have someone like Hoffman or Tom Selleck...even Robert Mitchum...playing the part, I don't think the film would be as memorable as it is today.
I wouldn't want a remake at all. Why bother? We're almost in the timeframe of the movie itself...and like Metropolis and every other sci fi classic, it was just a vision of the future of it's day. A sequel really isn't worth the effort anymore...too little too late is my theory. If they really wanted to make another Blade Runner film...I'd make it a different character, push it further into the future and only give small hints or links to the first film. Deckard's story is over. (Fan films are another matter though, heh!)

both actors are inteligent with there own respect and the movie may not have been improved had dutin gotten the part. however i dont want to put anyone down (dustin) but ridley said himself he picked hharrison over him simply bc dustin wanted to make the movie something it wasnt(or shouldnt be) at least thts what the film nior book said. but please do not quote me bc imnot 100% sure
That hurt! That was irrational of you. Not to mention ... unsportsmanlike.Heh heh...ha ha ha! Where are you going?"
According to Future Noir: the making of blade runner by Paul M. Sammon pages 82-85.....
Hampton Fancher origionally wanted Mitchum but age was an issue, but later he also wanted to have someone more like the book "...blande, nondescript, a bureaucrat." He also suggested Tommy Lee Jones and Christopher Walken. Scott Suggested Dustin Hoffman...someone Fancher never would have "never, ever have dreamed as Deckard". scott felt Hoffman was a good enough actor to pull anything off and would have grounded Deckard in reality. fancher threatened to leave if Hoffman was chosen though changed his mind when he met him in person to go over the script with him. Dustin Knew he wouldn't work how they had him scripted and in order to keep him they(Ridley and Micheal Deeley) asked for a rewrite. They really needed Dustin for his star power. Dustin influenced many changes that were kept including batty's confrontation with tyrell. He ultimately dropped out possibly for monetary and other work related reasons. Harrison had just finished Indianna jones and Barbara hershey stated that he was about to become the biggest star in hollywood. They quickly signed him up in 1980 before raiders came out and harrisons star power soared. But when they saw him wearing the indianna jones hat they realized they needed to do something different since they wanted him to wear a similar hat. So thus the crew cut was born.
