Which version do I show someone who's never seen BR?

I'm leaning towards the DC, but this person's pretty openminded, so more than one viewing is almost a guarantee. Should I show her the OV first, just to see how it was with the narration and happy ending......and then the DC to say, "See how much clearer it is?"

The voice-over version - there's a lot to take in and most people will probably not be able to follow the DC without some explanation - I doubt whether I would have enjoyed the DC as much if I had never seen the VO version.

I suggest the DC version...particularly because the picture quality is better. At least between the versions I have of them. It is my preference between them as well. All a matter of opinion, of course. But, which ever presents itself best visually would make sense (to me) to show.

definately the VO version first, after all, tht naration serves a purpose!!

Maybe explain a little first and then dive in at the deep end with the DC

This is a tough question in a lot of ways. If the person is someone who likes movies and doesn't need things explained to them the DC is a good choice. Most people do seem to respond to the OV a little bit better though, because the DC tends to have too many slow moments without the voice over that some people lose connection with the movie(unless they are freaks like us that want to savor the unadulterated visuals). Since I saw the OV first I can't help you with how viewing the DC first will effect your perception of the movie. I will just tell you that the first time I saw BR in the 80's I didn't quite like it. There was nothing like it back then either. Ironically since the movie has been copied for it's visuals and ideas so much since then, many people seeing for the first time now think of it as derivitive. You might just want to give them the choice using what we told you here to prep them. Of course you also have to remember since the OV is yet to be on DVD, picture quality and letterboxing may may play a part in your decision more than movie content.

If possible i would agree...even better would be a theatrical presentation. check your local colleges...they might show it.

Show her the movie.. it was made in 1982.
Then quickly mention that a crappy DC was made 10 years later, thats all she needs to know.

I would have to go with the OV version first. Even though I can appreciate the DC, whenever I watch it, I still hear the voiceover. Is that so wrong?
