After all ,Let's think it over .......

Van Gogh in 'Lust For Life,' but I love Tim Roth in Robert Altman's 'Vincent and Theo' and don't know how anyone could top that...but if anyone could, it's Kirk)
Kirk Douglas was Van Gogh. The local people of Auvers-sur-Oise thought Vincent had literally returned while Kirk was filming there. See this film.
Anthony Quinn totaly embodies Paul Gauguin, as well.
As far as Michael goes... I wholeheartedly concur with the above testimony. For most of his movies, anyway.
I watched one of his better ones IMHO last night"The Star Chamber"(1983)
Didn't care for "Black Rain" when it came out & recently sat-through it again... in vain.Sorry Ridley
If you didn't like Black Rain, you probably wouldn't like ,Year of the dragon either with M. Roarke about a renegade like cop in china town . These are just 2 examples of movies that you don't see much of any more .They've got story plot ,action when called for, and they're equiped with stunt men, crafted special effects, before much of the cgi crap done today, by someone sitting on their cussion at a computer. Blade Runner is another movie, back in the days when people did things different concerning design and the whole look of the picture show experience. One word ...superb
I didn't sugest that Mike D. be a coke head or a chain smoking neurotic ,in the movie ,it's just that his acting presence is greaty appriated by myself, as well as others, and I think the role of Deckard would be handled with ease on the account of his wide range seriousness about getting a project done right, something that Ridley wants. Check him out in The Sentinal, with K. Sutherland & Kim B. You gotta say that Douglas has broken down walls others feared or didn't go near, that could have become a razer sharp edge for him back then, if that was the case. To take on a unique script like BR.,you gotta be ready.
I do agree though that some of the things he's done in movies in the past have been somewhat of a repeat .With all that said ,I have an understanding of what you mean.
He's still a great freaking actor ,a teacher of the trade,he reminds me of his father, the one that pulls you in too close for comfort ,so much you feel and see ,the emotional rescue , your eyes get glued to the screen ,boom! bam!,you're caught up in the chase
It is true (like) homer wrote below,..black rain. is like a world leading up to the one in br. .I think you can tell that blade runner was still raining down in ridley's head when he brought us black rain.
Sorry Ridley
Blade Runner is 7 years older than Black Rain.
