That has always been one of my biggest nitpicks. It should've simply said:

After a bloody mutiny by a Nexus combat team, etc.

Leaving open the question of what generation of NEXUS were the cause for the ban on Earth, and elimitanig the logical incongruence of Deckard not knowing about the sixes.

I mispoke about them being younger, I was trying to point out that they were considered 'new' and the police force seemed to not know about them, especially Deckard. I was just trying to deduct their age using info from the movie. Remember though, they sent him to Tyrell's to test the machine (Voight kampff) on a Nexus 6. Meaning that they don't have very much data on them. Check out the missing hospital scene with Holden, He talks about how new they are. By using the given information in the movie thay have to be at least 4yo, but it depends on how long Deckard had been retired for it to be believable. Still it all doesn't explain why the opening crawl says the 'Nexus 6' mutiny is why the replicants were declared illegal on earth. Actually all they would have to do to fix it would be to take out the 6 designation in the opening crawl.

Interesting...

I was always under the impression that the Blade Runner Unit (aka special police squad) had been around for a long while. And once Nexus 6's became illegal on Earth, retiring them now fell exclusively under the jurisdiction of the Blade Runner unit. Kind of like them being given an additional responsibility.

The problem with that becomes, why call on Deckard? If the "retirement" of replicants only became the responsibility of the Blade Runners after the Nexus 6 mutiny, Deckard, having been unfamiliar with the Nexus 6 model because he was retired, would not have had any experience doing it (which doesn't seem like it is the case from the movie).

I think I like the idea of them being hunted because they went rogue better than the whole illegal on Earth idea. That way the Blade Runners' job would have always been to hunt down escaped replicants throughout all the Nexus generations. It would also explain how Deckard has had experience retiring replicants, but not being familiar with the Nexus 6 ones.
